Killings by police in the L.A. County took a sharp jump

It is reported that local law enforcement officers fatally shot 54 people last year, which nearly 70% more than the year before.

In other news….The rise in welfare cases has L.A. County looking at ways to save money. According to the LATimes, Los Angeles County officials are considering additional measures to root out fraud and impose tougher sanctions on aid recipients who fail to comply with program rules. The proposed changes are supposed to ensure that scarce taxpayer dollars go only to those who meet residency and work requirements of the county's general relief program, but critics are worrying  that some possible measures would hurt those who need the help the most.
