This announcement was sparked by a comment made by Vice President Joe Biden last weekend. The two had decided they would announce their support at a later date; however, due to Biden’s getting off task, the president decided to speak out for himself and clarify.
President Obama reported that he would have "Preferred to have done this in my own way, on my own terms," but "all's well that ends well." Biden later apologized to Obama for having released their stance sooner than planned.
Same sex marriages are also a discussion down under, in Australia, this week as the Australian Prime Minster speaks out, and not for the first time, about her opposition to gay marriage.
CNN reports that in Belgium, Canada, Spain, South Africa, and Norway same sex marriages are legal, while in 76 other countries they are illegal and in 5 they are punishable by death.
