Toddler dead, Sibling in critical; Mother detained

 Police said Wednesday that a South Los Angeles mother has been taken into custody for the drowning death of a 1-year-old girl. A 5-year-old remains in critical but stable condition. A neighbor said the mother appeared to be severely depressed and possibly suicidal.  Source: LA Times
